At a glance

I prepare wills, living trusts, and powers of attorney for Oregon and Southwest Washington families at flat fees: a simple will from $1,000 and a living trust from $2,550. If you are married and own a paid-off home plus retirement accounts, Oregon’s $1 million estate tax may apply to you; I offer a plan built for that.

Who I work with

Families in Wilsonville, Tualatin, West Linn, Lake Oswego, the Portland metro, and Southwest Washington — Vancouver, Camas, and Clark County.

HomeownersYour house is likely the largest thing you own. A living trust plan includes the deed that moves it into the trust.
Married couplesOregon gives each spouse a $1 million exclusion and does not let the survivor use the first spouse’s unused amount.
ParentsA will nominates who raises your children and names who manages what you leave them.
Anyone without documentsIf you became incapacitated tomorrow, a power of attorney and advance directive decide who acts for you.

Remarried with children from a prior relationship? In Oregon, a simple will leaving everything to your spouse can leave those children with less than no will at all. I explain why, and what a trust should say instead, in estate planning for second marriages.

Oregon’s $1 million estate tax

As of October 2026, Oregon taxes estates over $1 million at 10% to 16%. The threshold is not indexed for inflation, and there is no portability between spouses. A paid-off Portland-area house plus retirement accounts can cross it. The Oregon Estate Tax Trust Plan is designed to preserve each spouse’s exclusion. For what couples owe at each estate size, see Oregon estate tax rates.

A living trust is not asset protection

A living trust is not asset protection. A revocable trust is yours: you can change it, revoke it, and take everything back, so your creditors can reach it too. It avoids probate. It does not stop a lawsuit. If you own a business, practice medicine, hold rental property, or have real creditor exposure, see how asset protection works.

Southwest Washington

I am licensed in Washington and prepare Washington documents for families in Vancouver, Camas, and Clark County. Washington has its own estate tax with a $3,000,000 exclusion for deaths on or after July 1, 2026. See Washington estate planning. If you live in Washington and own property in Oregon, see Oregon estate tax for Washington residents.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an estate plan cost?

Flat fees. A simple will is $1,000 for one person or $1,400 for a married couple. A living trust is $2,550 or $3,250, including the deed for your primary residence. The Oregon Estate Tax Trust Plan for married couples is $5,250. Powers of attorney and an advance directive are $250 or $400.

Do I need a will or a living trust?

A will is carried out through probate. A funded living trust is designed to pass what it holds outside probate. Which one fits depends on what you own and where. I tell you on the 15-minute call.

Does Oregon have an estate tax?

Yes. As of October 2026, Oregon taxes estates over $1 million at rates from 10% to 16%. The threshold is not indexed for inflation, and a spouse’s unused exclusion does not carry over to the survivor.

Do you serve Washington clients?

Yes. I am licensed in Washington and prepare Washington documents for families in Vancouver, Camas, and Clark County.

Is a living trust asset protection?

No. A revocable living trust avoids probate. It does not protect assets from creditors or lawsuits.
